Arctic Arrangement for Regional Reception Facilities

Due to the Arctic’s unique circumstances (remoteness, severe weather, limited infrastructure and resources) regional arrangements are a practical means of meeting MARPOL obligations.

Main activities

  1. develop language for the proposed draft MARPOL amendments that, consistent with the decision made by the 74th Session of the IMO’s Marine Environmental Protection Committee (MEPC), would implement an Arctic Regional Arrangement for Port Reception Facilities. Such proposed draft language would be part of a joint submission by Arctic States to the 9th meeting of IMO’s Sub-committee on Pollution, Prevention and Response (PPR) in 2022. T
  2. collaboration with the Marine Litter expert group (ML EG) on information relevant to marine litter.
